Holy Week is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in all of Spain. A tradition shrouded in pain and sacrifice, where the shadows of sorrow sweep over the avenues, streets, and alleyways throughout the country.
This photographic project was carried out in the city of Almería in 2016. The religious processions wind through the narrow streets of the old town throughout the night, until the first rays of sunlight shine over the rooftops. The photos shown were taken in the street, under the glow of the streetlights, while women dressed in strict mourning walked to the rhythm of the drums.
